Nominations are now open for the 2nd Annual Spirit Nova Scotia Local Food Award, co-sponsored by Spirit of Nova Scotia and Select Nova Scotia. The award celebrates individuals and organizations that have made a significant contribution to the local food movement in Nova Scotia. Nominations are open from May 1 - June 10, 2009, and nomination forms are available here. Prizes will be awarded for three categories:
- Producer (farmer/fisher),
- Non-profit (organizations, institutions, individuals etc.),
- Business (restaurants, retail etc.).
Nominees will be evaluated on their achievements in the following four areas: A. Environmental stewardship
B. Community Engagement
C. Promotion of Local Food
D. Creativity and Innovation
Nominations must be e-mailed by June 10, 2009. A panel of judges will create a short list of nominees for each category. The general public will be invited to vote online for winners in each category from July 24 - August 7, 2009.
