The Continuing Education Department of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College is offering a new evening course starting in January 2009 called "Exploring the Small Farm Dream".

Do you have extra land you don’t know what to do with?
Are you looking to get closer to your food and how it is produced?
Maybe you are just ready to get away from it all and get in touch with nature?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, it may be time for you to Explore Your Small Farm Dream.

The course will help aspiring farmers learn what it would take to start and manage their own commercial agricultural businesses, and decide whether this is a path they really want to take. Created as a decision-making tool, it can help you establish the clear vision and goals you will need to guide your new venture. It will also help you identify and assess personal motivations, business and farming skills, and other available resources.

A facilitator will guide you through 5 interactive sessions featuring panel discussions with existing farmers, guest speakers, government and industry representatives.

Session 1: Is Starting an Agricultural Business Right For You?

Session 2: Research the Landscape

Session 3: Assessing Your Resources and Marketing

Session 4: Buying Rural Property

Session 5: Next Steps

Please visit the course website for more information.
