Second Nova Scotia Food Security Network gathering, 4-5 Dec 08 PDF Print E-mail

The Second Nova Scotia Food Security Network Gathering, Making the Connection II, was held 4-5 Dec 08 at the Debert Hospitality Centre, with over 100 people from all parts of the local food economy in attendance. The Hon. Brooke Taylor, NS Minister of Agriculture, used the occasion to announce funding for local food infrastructure development.

There were workshops on Food Security Network initiatives including:

• Mapping Food Security
• Affecting Policy Change
• Distribution of Local Food
• Poverty/Hunger
• Food Miles
• Gardening
The network called for additional workshop proposals for the Gathering, which has the following objectives:
• Raise awareness of food security, sovereignty and system issues
• Identify opportunities and innovative solutions
• Increase networking within the NS Food Security community
• Build leadership capacity and self-reliant, community based solutions
• Support development of community/county/provincial food security activity
Proposals should be submitted as soon as possible, no later than October 30th, 2008. You can download a detailed call for proposals here.
